Albinism Prevention – A Way For Albinism Treatment

Mike Fawn asked:

When you see a person with awkward white skin color then do you know what the problem is? This happens due to albinism that is an inherited disorder of having little or no pigment in skin, hair, and eyes. Due to the altered genes of the parents, this disorder passes onto the next generation. The level of pigment loss varies, as it is completely absent in some patients whereas in some cases there is minimal pigment loss. Some patients suffer from loss of eye pigment and even vision due to ocular albinism.

Symptoms

The symptoms of albinism vary with the amount of pigment loss. The eyes become sensitive to bright lights and one suffers from irregular and rapid eye movement. The albinism patients have either wandering or lazy eyes. The skin becomes extremely white or there are patches of pigment due to low pigmentation. The skin becomes very sensitive to sunburns and highly susceptible to skin cancer. One can diagnose this disorder by observing hairs, eyes, and skin of the patient. One can also diagnose the disorder by chemical testing or DNA genetic testing.

Treatment

Prevention is the cure and treatment of albinism. So protect the skin from any sun exposure by covering skin as much as possible while going out. Apply sunscreen lotion to the exposed body area and wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from any sun glare. One can rectify the affected vision by surgery or wearing optical aids like glasses and contact lens. The treatment of crossed eyes disorder due to albinism is made by the use of eye patches, medicine injections, and surgery.

While marrying one should check if either of the partners of the future spouse has albinism background and one should go for genetic testing before marriage. If in case the parents have the albinism problem then the kids can inherit, these diseases so do take an advice from the genetic counselor while planning for family.
